Play in the snow and get to know the award-winning neighborhood of Plum Creek

This weekend, Plum Creek homebuilder KB Home is hosting a Winter Wonderland event January 21^st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Plum Creek to celebrate the grand opening of their new model home in the mixed-use, master-planned community. Bigelow Homes and Homes by Avi have joined in the fun and Plum Creek will be transformed into a winter playground, with real snow on the ground for snowball fights and snow angels, as well as hot chocolate inside the model homes.

You may ask, what is this Hootenanny all about?  However, a better question would be what ISN’T happening at this event?  BBQ & chili cookoff, 5k run, wildflower seed & stomp, scarecrow contest, pet fair, hay rides, petting zoo, the list seems endless!  Did we mention the pumpkin carving contest?  Or the jump castles and community vendors?  Phew, there’s so much going on at this event you simply have to attend so you don’t miss out.

Family, friends and even pets are all welcome to join in games, activities, contests and live music.  This event is reminiscent of days where ice cream trucks were a staple of neighborhood summers.  Perhaps you’re an ice cream connoisseur with a secret family recipe?  Well, just so happens that this festival has a homemade ice cream making contest just for you.  There will also be a popsicle stick sculpture contest, as well as a screaming contest, because everyone loves to scream if ice cream is the reward!

Sound like you?  Well, it just so happens that there’s a fun and easy solution!  Hop in the car and take a quick drive up to Buda for Toons & Tunes, an outdoor movie and concert series.  Every Friday night from June 3rd to August 5th you can come to Buda City Park and enjoy bands under the pavilion or family-friendly movies under the stars.  Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and the whole family!  The series kicks off June 3rd with Karate Kid.

Campers will work and tend a real food garden using organic methods.  Instead of harsh chemicals, they’ll learn how to utilize natural predators such as ladybugs and dragonflies to control food pests, as well as native mulches to control weeds.  Gardening lessons will also include how to attract backyard wildlife by planting native plants and water features.

Wait!  It gets even cooler!  Campers will also learn about composting, rain water collecting, and get the chance to tend a wildlife pond.  They will participate in bird watching and learn about discouraging non-native, invasive birds while encouraging native species to feed and nest.  The camp has occupied House Wren nest boxes, and campers will be able to observe and count eggs and chicks.  Last but not least, they’ll get to take home their own plants and garden crafts.  Making a mosaic bird bath out of recycled pots and tiles sounds pretty awesome to us!

Every Spring, Plum Creek hosts Front Porch Days – a weekend event that brings folks from Central Texas to Plum Creek for family activities. Growing larger each year since its debut in 2001, Front Porch Days hosts a Golf Tournament, a Music Festival, a 5k run/1k fun run, food and vendor booths, and activities for children of all ages from jumpy kingdoms and face painting to pony rides and a petting zoo.

The whole weekend will be hopping with live entertainment, food, arts, and craft vendors.  Also,  the Lions will sponsor a BBQ Cook-off and Chili Cook-off on Saturday.  This is serious business, as the chili cookers will compete for points that can qualify them for the world famous Terlingua International Chili Championship.
