Just South of Austin, The Grey Rock Golf Club offers world class amenities only 30 minutes away from Plum Creek. With a spacious clubhouse nestled in a grove of live oaks, it’s a picturesque venue, great for relaxing after a round on the course, or for holding an event. The club also boats extensive practice facilities, with a well maintained putting green and driving range. Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels is located adjacent the serene Comal River. Right here in Plum Creek, the Plum Creek Golf Course offers a high-caliber golf experience just minutes away from home. This Texas-sized course on over 200 acres offers challenging play with unique character in the heart of the Plum Creek community. Seeded to stay green all year round, this course is one of the best in the area and also home to the Texas State Men’s and Women’s golf teams. Designed so that no two fairways touch, and with black tees at a challenging 7100+ yards, Plum Creek offers a distinctive golf experience that all players will enjoy.

Clay-Kizer Golf Course

As Austin’s largest municipal golf complex, the Clay-Kizer facility offers players 36 holes on two courses in South Austin. These small courses are known for being reasonably priced and well maintained, and suitable for players of all levels. With tree-lined fairways surrounded by Williamson Creek, these courses offer a variety of play at one convenient location. Five sets of tees make the course the right challenge every player. An Austin staple since 1974, these muni courses are a great golf experience at an affordable price.

One of the most highly rated courses in all of Texas, the Fazio Foothills at Barton Creek offers a stunning experience in the heart of Austin. Known as the hardest of the four Barton Creek courses, nearly every hole of The Foothills boasts fabulous, postcard-worthy views. Though the Fazio Canyons is the signature course at Barton Creek, The Foothills is a local favorite as well. This premiere course features waterfalls and caves and takes advantage of the best of Central Texas’s natural features. It’s a little pricier, but the resort facilities and unforgettable layout are worth it. Ranked first in Golfweek’s 50 Best Resort Courses in the US and also named the Best Resort Course in Texas by Golf Digest, this course is one of Central Texas’s must-plays.

Exploring Craft Breweries near Kyle, Texas

The Texas craft beer movement is spilling over to Hays County and we couldn’t be more grateful. As summer temperatures rise, what could be better than a crisp, locally-brewed beer to cool down? If you’re feeling adventurous, Plum Creek is only a short trip away from some of the most popular craft breweries in Central Texas, and there’s no better time than summertime to get to know your local breweries!

Independence Brewing Co.

Independence Brewing Co. has been brewing full-flavored, handcrafted beers for the people of Texas since 2004, and is a short 20 minute drive up I-35 from Plum Creek. Brewery tours happen on the first Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include three beer samples and live music. In addition, the tasting room is open every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Choice beer for summer? The White Rabbit White Ale is a medium-bodied brew that provides a crisp and slightly fruity finish. Subtle hints of orange zest make this beer the perfect refreshment for summertime heat.

(512) Brewing Company

Also 20 minutes up I-35 from Kyle and Plum Creek is the (512) Brewing Company. Its beers are made with Austin’s own mineral rich water, and the microbrewery strives to use as many local, domestic and organic ingredients as possible. One-hour brewery tours take place on Saturdays starting at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include a (512) souvenir pint glass and beer tastings. RSVP online for a spot.

Choice beer for summer? The refreshingly light and crisp (512) Wit is easily enjoyed in the Texas heat. Look out for the (512) White IPA as well, a summer ale to be released in early July.

Thirsty Planet Brewing Company

Thirsty Planet is another South Austin brewery that believes in brewing with a purpose. They incorporate sustainable practices into their brewing process and support charities with a portion of their beer sales. Tours take place every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and food is available for purchase. Tours are free, but you need to reserve a spot online.

Choice beer for summer? The Yellow Armadillo is a light American-style wheat beer that is crisp, refreshing and perfect for hot summer days. Light notes of citrus add a clean finish to this Texas ale. And a portion of Thirsty Goat’s sales from Yellow Armadillo Wheat goes to a local cancer research and support foundation.

Bomber Brewery (Coming Soon!)

Bomber Brewery is the newest addition to the Hays County craft beer scene. The small, two barrel brewery will include the use of solar power, wind power and rainwater collection in the brewing process. It will be located just south of Kyle, Texas and is scheduled to open this July. Keep an eye out for upcoming tastings and other events!

Choice beer for summer? The Allies Irish Red Bomber is a refreshing, slightly hoppy ale that pairs well with warm weather.
